Numbers about elections are easy to quote and easy to misuse. Everything in this section names the release, the population, the denominator, and the uncertainty before it says anything else, and it links the official source so you can check it.

Rules for every figure we publish
- Name the release and the table, so the figure can be verified.
- State the population covered and the denominator used.
- Publish the margin of error, and never treat a difference smaller than it as a finding.
- Never call a survey estimate a certified count.
- Keep older releases as dated historical pages instead of overwriting them.
- Give every chart a prose summary and a data table.
