How to report an error

Send the page address, the sentence or value you believe is wrong, and the official source that shows the correct information if you have one. A source is helpful but not required. We take reports from anyone, including election officials, and we do not require you to identify yourself.

How we triage

1. Immediate check. Anything that could send a voter to the wrong place, or that states an expired deadline, is checked first. If we cannot verify it quickly, the value is removed while we check.
2. Verification. We compare the claim against the primary source, usually the election authority for the jurisdiction.
3. Decision. We correct, clarify, or explain why the original stands.
4. Publication. A substantive correction is published in the log below and noted in the change history on the page itself.

What we treat as a correction

• A fact that was wrong, including a date, a rule, a number, or an attribution.
• A link that sent readers to the wrong destination.
• A characterization of an official record that misstated what the record says.

What we treat as a clarification

Wording that was accurate but easy to misread. Clarifications are noted on the page in the change history, and they are not listed as corrections.

What we do not do

We do not silently edit a fact and leave the page looking untouched. We do not remove a correction after the fact. We do not change a publication date to make old material look new. And we do not roll back a published correction without editorial review, even if the correction was inconvenient.

Every substantive correction appears below with its date, the page, the previous statement, the corrected statement, the evidence, and the reviewer.
